Mother of 12, Leonilda Rosa dos Santos is the matriarch and traditional healer of the Sobrado community. With her 93 years old, Leonilda was born and raised in the community, where she spent her whole life. We photographed her at Zé Sabiá’s house. He is one of the geraizeiro leaders and the president of the Sobrado Residents Association. Luciana, Sabiá’s niece and Leonilda’s granddaughter, was the one who welcomed us into the community and, when speaking about her grandmother, she added: “She’s everyone’s darling”.
